ebalta sustainability contribution

We are committed to taking responsibility for the preservation and protection of the environment on a daily basis.

Our goal is to keep our ecological footprint as low as possible. To this end, we are continuously increasing and standardising the proportion of recycled and renewable raw materials. Another component of our sustainability strategy is to offset and compensate for the remaining CO2 emissions. We have been certified as a carbon-neutral company since January 2021.

In order to meet this goal, conserve resources and take the scarcity of goods into account, the following measures result for our company:

Measures for CO2 reduction – Materials

Our research and development team is continuously working to increase and standardise the proportion of recycled and renewable raw materials. At the same time, we strive for a market-oriented price-performance ratio. Renewable raw materials include, for example, castor oil, sugar, sunflower oil or lignin.

The complete cycle of recyclable materials is included in the reduction measures. For example, cutting residues from board processing are processed into briquettes and used as fillers for resin boards.

We want to produce individual products, including the product life cycle, in a carbon-neutral way. To this end, a product carbon footprint (PCF) is drawn up to determine the product’s carbon footprint. Currently, our casting compound VP GM 914 for the production of climbing holds is already certified carbon neutral. The product contains over 40% renewable raw materials in the end product.

Measures for CO2 reduction – Energy consumption

In order to reduce our own CO2 emissions as much as possible, we have a photovoltaic system on the roofs of ebalta. In addition, the entire company is supplied with 100% green electricity. All lamps in our buildings have been changed to LED.

Existing production processes are continuously optimised to reduce our energy consumption and thus the impact on emissions. For example, a heat exchanger ensures heat recovery from the exhaust air.

Company cars are offered as hybrids or electric cars. Charging columns for the photovoltaic system are being purchased on the company premises. Through the bicycle leasing programme, the way to work is becoming increasingly carbon-neutral.

Measures for CO2 reduction – Environmental management

We increase the environmental awareness of our employees through regular employee training and instruction.

We have internal, trained environmental officers who can draw up the ebalta carbon footprint on their own. Gaps and potentials for carbon reduction are regularly identified through workshops held by natureOffice GmbH, a member of the Alliance for Climate and Development.

Within the framework of our certified environmental management system, we regularly check the implementation of our goals and document the progress.

Offsetting and certificates

ebalta is a certified carbon neutral company
ebalta is a certified carbon neutral company

ebalta offsets the direct and indirect emissions from energy production remaining in the carbon footprint by investing in offset projects.

Offsetting in 2020 was done by supporting the certified climate offset project “Hydroelectric Project in Kinnaur”, India This climate offset project generates clean energy from hydropower and thus avoids emissions from fossil fuels.

In addition to offsetting, ebalta also supports PROJECT TOGO, a natural forest reforestation project that builds self-sustaining value chains. The donation from ebalta will be used to purchase an oil mill for the women’s cooperative in Kotokop√©, Togo.

The company natureOffice GmbH, a member of the Alliance for Climate and Development, supports ebalta in the implementation of offsetting and certification
